Are you mixing short/long water pumps?? There are both available for chevys. The short one will just about touch the timing chain cover. Long ones have a 1/2"-3/4" or so gap. Chevy put out about a million or so pulleys. You need to get a setup off one that lines up and compare. I have a few small blocks with pullys on around here and can measure something if you want.

Was pulleys aready on engine? ( six pulleys will not work on V-8) Did you get the same pump ?(short or long) Find a V-8 rod or cut the one you have into and weld in a piece or buy a piece of all-thread.

ok jhow66 thanks for th help yea I thought that would work for the throttle linkage. I have the short pump just seems to need about a 1/4 of inch if I lay the pump pulley, there are two that are together, flat the height measures 3 " and I need 2 3/4" one thing that makes me wonder about the viberation dambener is the power steering pump pulley and belt seems to be a little to far out also Thanks again Dave
