th400 LONGTAIL wanted NJ
anyone local enough have a good used working th400 LONGTAIL trans up for sale? I will come pick up within like 100-200 miles

yep, and you know where I live :-) .
I was just going to post this ad in the 88-98 forums. (1) TH350 long tail, known good, NON-lockup. Chevy bolt pattern. $75 (1) TH-400 longtail, 2WD, small output, VERY hard to come by as a direct replacement for a 700R4, same length & output size. Chevy pattern, Known good, I drove the truck here. Only one of these I've ever had! $175.

Edit: The THM-375 has a small shaft and same spline count as a th350. Technically is a th400 or a mildly beefed up version of a th350 its really a mix between the two.

TH400 LONG TAIL is the last one in pic, th350 long tail in front of that and typical th350 shortail in the front, notice I have all the tails against the wall so you can see how much longer. truck I pulled it from had an M40 RPO code.
Th400 is 34.5" long overall, center one is 31.5" and shortail is 28.5" I measure from the front-most edge of bellhousing ,at the dowel pin hole, to the back edge of tail housing, did not include the little bit of the spline that sticks out. also measuring from the same spot rearwards to the center of the mounting boss on the TH400 is appx. 27-1/2". will someone measure their 700R4 for me. thanx , DAVE

Im not trying to pick on you or anything. But does the th400 have 4 or 6 bolts holding on the tailshaft? Im pretty sure its a th-375, especially with the way the tailshaft looks and that a th350 yoke will fit it.
Its more out of self curiosity than anything.

Hey even after 20+ years on these there isn't a week that goes by that i don't find out something new. I will have to go back down to the storage garage to look at that ,but I know it has a th400 pan. For years I thought a 375 was scritcly a gm big car FWD( toronado/ Cadillac) trans, or was that a 425?, Now that center trans caused me and PHILATRUCK a lot of grief in the driveshaft dept. It was in an 83, but no idea if it was original or not but is the length that needed a two piece driveshaft, another mystery of our trucks , we'll save that for another table discussion :-) . DAVE
I still want someone to measure up a 2WD 700 R4 for us all to compare to this TH400? Anyone remember the throw-away th125?
