Is the dash bezel just a flat piece of metal or plastic, or does it have a rounded edge? I don't get my truck until mid-May (yes, it's killing me!).
I'm asking because I am considering getting piece of aluminum and making my own bezel, then drilling the holes in it for aftermarket gauges (AutoMeter, of course). Has anyone done this before?

It's plastic and it has rounded edges.

Here's one Javier Sanchez makes, he's a board member. I bought one from him for $200 and it's the cat's a$$.

Trying to pull mine for a re-paint, and can't figure out how to get the headlight and wiper knobs off. There is supposed to be a button on the headlight shaft, but I can't reach it. Is it the same for the wiper knob? My dash is exactly like yours (71 GMC): I'm a little worried about discnnecting the sppedo and guages just to spray it...any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks, Tom |

Mocwon,
How much with the gauges? Did you buy the cluster and put in the gauges your self? That's exactly what I'm looking for.

On my 72, there is a little flathead screw on the wiper knob, and the lights knob just pushes on. I had to pull pretty hard to get it off, but it came off. Then you just push it back on.

I like that gauge cluster also and would be interested in learning more! Is it screened on the back? What kind of metal is it made of? How do we contact Javier (sorry for the threadjack)

Guess what I am getting at is could I use a flat piece of aluminum sheeting and custom make my own bezel? Or would I have to have the edges rolled so there is a lip around the outer edge?

I think you can space them by double nutting them too. There shouldn't be any problem you can't work out.

The Auto Meter Phantom gauges were about $500, if i remember correctly (I used a different tach). I bought the gauges and put them in myself.
