bb engine ?
just got the engine fired back up in my pickup and i can't seem to find a tick?the motor has every thing new in it, crane 270 cam, lifters, push rods, rockers, forged pistons, resized rods, reground crack, double roller chain,hv oil pump, pinned shaft, carter street strip fuel pump, and rod.but i can't find this tick rattle sounds like a loose rocker but i've adjusted them tree times and can't find any loose ones,i've got a puddle of oil in the drive way real big to prove it. any help would help don't know if this is normal for a bb or what, i drove it and it don't miss and it sounds good except this tick or rattle. thanks John

I dont know if this is the problem but, Are you running a cam button? A buddy of mine has the same thing in his 454 with a button. He changed the cam and everything and it is still there. I am now running the cam he took out without a button. Sounds great! Hope this helps!

I'm think that might be it so i might change it out to the old fuel pump and see if that helps, i'd be really pissed at my self if anything is wrong with the cam or lifters, thats only because i did all the work except the maching.

When i bought the 61 Impala for my wife a few days later it started to knock i was like F,i thought it was a rod or something
Dad came over heard it said change your fuel pump holy crap that was it and it was knocking loud, couldnt believe it rally sounded like a serious internal ouchie!!!!If a tick though id suspect a small exhaust leak. |

John, did you find the tick ?? Have you tried listening closer with a screwdriver or anything like what your doc uses to listen to your heart ?? I use a screw driver or block of wood - not the most scientific but it works to some degree. Not a noisy lifter ? Sometimes they'll get bit of dirt in them, might try a quart of tranny oil in the block to loosen it up.

Had a 305 that would do the knock thing, I was sure it was a rod knock, every 10K or so. It was always the fuel pump.

I also had a tick in my big block and it turned out to be a header gasket leak on the drivers side bottom. The bolts were tight and it turns out that there was a small piece that chipped out and thats were the leak was.
