66 dash question

hey just bought my 66 short wide recently as a project and am trying to get it together. my guage cluster has 6 holes at the bottom. i know where the windsheild wiper, push button start, and the ignition go but what goes in the other 3 holes. also there is something on the bottom of the dash just under the wiper control. don't have any clue what it is. do know it is not all there. push up on the spring and can lock it and then push lever to release. appreciate the help. will try to pics up soon for better explanation.

Normally, they had the headlight switch, wiper switch and choke on the left side, and the ignition switch and cigarette lighter on the right and one spare hole with a plug in it. A push button starter might have been a factory option, but more than likely someone put it in. As for the thing under the dash, it's hard to say without a picture. It's not the park brake lever you're looking at, is it?

2 of my trucks also have a hand throtel next to the choke. Both were equiped with pto's...one for a wench and the other for a dump box.

Was just going to say that the plugged hole is for a manual throttle, but rcurrier beat me to it. Now for a thread hijack...

The panel lights (where you remove the socket to replace the bulb then twist the socket back into place) wore the contact strip off from around the twist-in socket hole so the panel light no longer has a contact. Can this strip of waht ever it is around the socket hole be repaired?

Thanks

Yes, while the pickups usually had one or two of the holes plugged, on big trucks they often used the extra holes for throttle or pto cables. On my fire truck they used every hole plus some. There were switches for lights, electric fuel pump, horn/siren selector, road/pump selector cable and more junk. The dash looked almost like an airplane cockpit.
Newbie351, what model truck do you have? Sounds like a printed circuit you're talking about, but I've only seen them on the later trucks.

I have a '66 GMC. When I went to replace the turn-signal indicator light the little strip of copper, or whatever it is that goes around the socket hole on each side of the socket, was hanging into the hole where the socket twists into. Not knowing what it was (it's dark under there), I pulled it off. Now there is no strip of contact material surrounding that side of the hole and the twist-in socket has nothing to make contact with. Just wondering if there's something that I could paint on or otherwise use to make contact with the socket and the piece of printed circiut that I removed (about an 1/2 inch worth).

Thanks

Thanks

My dash would be like the upper one in this picture. The turn signal indicator would be the panel light in the lower left corner.

If your choke is in that location someone must have put it there. The choke knob in these trucks was next to the wiper switch. On trucks without deluxe heater controls, the knob you're describing was the heater control knob; turning it operated the blower fan, and pulling it out controlled the heat. For defrost there was a small lever on the heater duct under the dash. Deluxe heater controls had three levers on the dash panel. What engine did your truck come with? Some of the V8's had automatic choke.

Sorry newbie351, as usual our trashy server won't let me open the pic. If it's like most GMC dash panels, I know what they look like. I've worked on the GMC's many times, in fact I have a 66 GMC parts truck, but I can't remember ever changing the dash bulbs on them. I know the Chevys did not have the printed circuits until later, but from what you're describing the GMC's must have had it back then. If it is a printed circuit, I don't know of any easy fix for them except to replace it.

I realize that this was posted last year but I have been looking for a dash with 6 holes. Yes it's a hand operated throttle. I have neve seen a dash with six holes and I would greatly appreciate if you could send me a picture. I'm presently re-storing a 65 and my goal is to install every possible option.
thanks for your consideration
