Those w/ Billet Dash Panels

I have a 73-80 billet dash panel for the right side of the dash to go over the AC vents. My question is, does this panel replace the factory, or is it designed to go overtop of the original like the guage bezel billet panels ???

do you have to remove the dash vent deflectors or do they stay in dash?

I am certain it replaces the original one. The cavity isn't deep enough for both, otherwise it would stick out too far. That is what I did to mine.

I think they are designed to replace, but mine wouldn't screw in tightly just to the dash plastic. I put the stock plastic piece back after grinding/sanding it flat. The billet piece screwed into that nice and snug.

i guess my question is, the original piece has studs that the AC vents bolt to, i guess with the new billet panel, you just bolt everything together, like this:

[billet panel - DASH - AC vents]
