Poor-mans hidden radio

Here is what I did for a radio - I thought it worked well. The remote unit is actually small enough to fit inside the ashtray, but I never fabricated a mount for it. Maybe someday... For now I just ran the cord under the rubber mat and up between the seats. The remote has a full LED readout and power, volume, presets, power, etc.

Cool, what did the box that you mounted the radio in come out of?

Its a "under the dash" radio install box. You can mount it either side up. Kinda like this:

Slick solution - really clean.

What stealth solution did you come up with for your speakers?

The radio is a Boss MR1500B marine radio if you believe it. Found it on ebay. The marine radios have some really cool wired remotes. There was a white version too. Looks like there is one on ebay again http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=3293

For now, I just have a new stereo 80w speaker in the dash. Some day I will find some
cool kickpanels or make myself a under-the-bench speaker box...

Nice, is the remote small enough to retro fit behind a fake ashtray type of deal?

Yes, it will fit inside the ashtray. So far I have not been able to make a bracket
for it. I was thinking it would be cool to automatically pop up when you pull the
ashtray out, then pop down when you push it in. I am not really a pro at this
kind of mod though, so I have not been able to make it. Someday...
