Leak at Differential and Driveshaft
I have my truck on concrete for about 4 months now so I am finally able to tell where my leaks are. Looks like it has just leaked a TINY bit under the truck where the driveshaft goes to the differential. What should I do about this? Is this serious enough to fix? I am assuming it is. What should I do?

The pinion shaft seal is probably going. It's not too bad to replace if the pinion nut and flange come off decent, you may have to get a speedy sleeve for the flange if it's worn, and use either a big socket or a seal driver to put in the new seal, speedy sleeves come with their own installation tool, looks kinda like a tuna can. If it's not leaking too bad, I wouldn't worry about it, just make sure to keep the rearend full of oil. Eventually, though, it's going to need replaced.

So far truck hasn't leaked motor oil. Still haven't gotten the tranny to completely stop leaking. Keep on finding more tranny leaks. I think I just need to drain it again and get a new gasket. I did it during the summer on the ground and didn't have much room. Now its on concrete and I can have it up higher. I have improved my working conditions 200%. Any other comments?

I've had vehicles that I used infrequently and had a small leak at the diff. I found that by driving it every couple of weeks, I didn't have a leak any more. I've been told by my tranny guy that, when our GM cars sit for extended periods, the converters unload, and the fluid level in the trans goes up. He says the little gasket where the linkage goes in will cause a leak. I've had this problem with a TH350, a 2004R and a 700R4. Each time, it was a quick, cheap fix. When You finnd a leak by the linkage, this will probably be the problem.

My pinion seal has leaked since i got the truck let me think about 4-5 years ago,it sprays all over under the bed,and exhaust, once in a while i pressure wash it off, ocassionally i crawl under there and pump some fluid in it,but it never takes as much as id suspect from the mess it makes.my steering box leaks, rear main seal,no tranny drips thank god.Cant wait to put that 454 in there all new seals so hopefully no leaks, pinion seal im taking into have done on a rack, ive pulled the pinion yoke off before under a truck=not fun.then you got to tighten the crap outta it because of the crush seal, mines going to a diff shop and they can do it.I hate anything to do with gear oil.

i guess im alittle cheaper because any leak i ever have in anyhting like those types of things, if i can i put laittle brake fluid in and it pumps through with the other fluid and its swells up those seals and all and it stops the leak. hey its a good cheap way and it wont tear anything up alot of people i know do it. so try that its a cheap way to find out if it works.
