Hilarious! Help please! Oil stick problem.
I just pulled not only the oil stick but the guide tube assembly out as well. Try as I might, looking from the top and the bottom, I cannot find where to stick the tube back in. Could someone provide any useful suggestions? Its a 1970 chevy, 4x4, 350 if any of that changes the placement of the oil stick.

There should be a triangular "bump" sticking out of the block just above the oil pan mating surface.

you can see it in this pic...thers a notch in the head and the triangular boss is just below it

Those things pop out all the time. You can take a hammer and gently tap the end that goes in the hole (very slightly flattening it) before re-installing it and it will tighten right up. Don't tap on it too hard or it won't go back in.

I had that happen to me right before i was going back to work one day, pissed me off because the block was hotter than hell and I was trying to get it back in the hole. After a few burns I got it though

Mine is really loose, how does a guy fix that? Doesn't leak as far as I can tell, just wiggles real easily...

Russel tap the end of the tube with a hammer(very lightly) and it should tighten up just as randy suggested... May want to try a new chrome tue the chrome on the tube usally makes it a snug fit...

yeah but the chrome ones have a little chrome inside of the tube on the edges, and when it flakes off and gets in the oil....
no thanks. JMO though. |
