Half cab for 74
I have a 74 blazer that I would like to convert to a half cab. I have went through pages of previous post ( all 16 currently) and the only links I can find to aftermarket tops don't seem to be working. I realize this wasn't a factory option but I think it would look good. I want the top to drop down behind the front seats and I was thinking about installing a pickup tailgate. I don't think I wan't anything permenant such as welding a pickup roof and back wall to it. Anybody have any pics or current links. I kind of want it to look like a short pickup.

if all else fails i have seen a guy take the top of a truck cab and cut it up in order to use it like a half cab the only bad thing i can see about that is that it would be considerably heavier than a fiberglass top

At one time there was a company that made a half cab for 73-75 year trucks. It's basically what you are looking for. A removable cab that will make the rear like a truck. I actually just saw one last week. I was going to catch up to it and take a pic but i got caught at a light and he dissappeared. kepp looking on ebay and all the chevy forums and I'm sure you will find one.

usbody source
has some half cabs for trucks. You may be able to use that. But then you'll have to come up with a wau to seal from there down.' Go to that website and look under the category 73-87 truck about 1/4 way down the page. |

Ten. I know what you are talking about and have seen numerous trucks with them on these forums. I wanted to put one on my 85 Blazer but sold it before I got around to it. I sent off for info on the one made by Creative Products of Minnesota. They sent me a brochure. It was great in that it was not a permanent conversion and could be put back to full top in about 30 minutes. Looks like they may no longer be in business though. The site link was www.creproonline.com but does not work now.
You could go over to Colorado K5 .com and ask there if you get no further info here. As far as I know there were only a couple of half cab manufacturers out there.

I have seen these and what I can tell is that they were manurfactured back in the 70's. They are fiberglass and they don't reach the floor. There was one forsale on CK5 a few months back. They are still around.

The one from usbody source does not go all the way down to the floor but the one from Creative products did. The upper cab back panel is fiberglass with a steel bulkhead bolted in beneath it. Both removeable to return the truck to full top usage.
So how about a soft top conversion? There are a number of those available for sure. And once again the truck would be dual usage. Maybe you can post your "wanted to buy" in the parts forums and get some responses there. There used to be several board members that had the early Blazers converted with the fiberglass cab conversion kit. Several of them were 2 wheel drives also. And if I remember correctly there were at least two of these guys in and around Memphis, Tn area.

Yeah. They have changed up there business. Now more into vacumm formed plastics and such. I guess there really isn't all that much demand for the half cab conversions. It only appeals to a few of us. Now I wish I had gone ahead and bought it when I could and saved it.

That was going to be my next suggestion. Maybe they still have one or two in the back.

I tried calling and e-mailing with no response.
I don't think the tops were there main business. If I remember right it was something to do with signs? I was supposed to get a half cab top piece, not the bulkhead, from a local guy a little while back, but we kept having problems setting up a meeting time. He lives almost 2 hours from me and before we could make it happen, money ran a little thin. If I could sell my diesel I would call him again but until then I just don't have the money for parts for a truck I am not currently driving.
