Lower Control Arm Shaft Replacement - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok, I bought new lower control arm shafts and went to the shop to put them in. As I read the instructions that came with them, it said to be sure to make sure the indent was at the right end. It did not say what was right. I looked at my old control arms and the driver's side had the indent towards the rear while the passenger's side had the indent towards the front. Considering everything else on my front end had been jacked by a PO, I am not sure I should take that as correct. Does anyone know how they are supposed to go? The pictures below show the indent I'm talking about and the mounting surfaces. I really do not know the purpose of the indent. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, if you look at the saddles under the frame, one of them should have a dime sized head in the middle of it. That indentation on the control fits in the saddle with the dime sized head in the middle. It keeps the control arm from being able to spin once it's tighten into place with the U bolts.

On my 71 my indents went towards the front of the shafts

the saddles will come off if they haven't already.
a few blows with a ball peen hammer should knock them loose.
the "indent" & matching saddle go to the front.
