dropped spindles
I have searched the FAQ and back posts and managed to get completely confused.
I am looking at putting 73-87 3" drop front spindles on my 1971 C10 and I have a few questions. 1. I understand that the lower ball joint is the same on the 71 as the 73-87 is this correct? 2. Will the 73-up upper ball joint fit my 71 control arms? 3. Does anybody offer a conversion tie rod end or sleeve that will allow this setup still, if so who? 4. Will my 71 calipers and rotors work with the 73-87 spindles? 5. have I forgotten anything? I know that a complete crossmember swap is best and easiest but I already have the spindles and all my '71 parts are new. |

CPP sells the adapter so you can use a 67-70 outer tie rod as the inner and the 73-87 as the outer. I think you need 73 up brake calipers rotors etc. (not positive). The 73 upper and lower ball joints fit. You will need to bolt in the uppers.

I just thought I'd warn you, Josh has been on the rampage lately (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=149975). Just curious why you want to go to the trouble of 73-87 spindles vs 67-72 spindles. Modifying the 73-87 steering stop and the cost of the tie rod adaptor sleeve seem more trouble than its worth.

I'm putting in my bags this summer and I already have a set of 73-87 drop spindles.
Fabrication isn't really a problem, I just wanted to make sure they would swap in relatively easily. Basically gathering info from the board in order to make an educated decision when the time comes. Speeking of education, I graduated (kinda) from Vaca High. I used to live just out side of Travis on Hay Rd. Went to Elmira elementary and Will C. Wood when it was still a Jr. High. My brother syill lives in Dixon, he's a C5 loadmaster at Travis still. Small world. |
