I want to run cut outs on my truck and was wandering about possible damage to my engine. I have always heard that it can hurt your engine but I read Ls1.com and alot of people are running them and racing all the time with out damage. I plan on having them almost right after the headers, so does anyone have experiance running cut outs or open headers for a long time? Did it affect the engine good or bad? I just want them for the sound I already have spintech one chamber mufflers and they just arent as loud as I would like, I want to set off car alarms and make people roll up there windows in traffic.

You won't damage your engine and it will definetly be loud.

Did you have them on your truck? How far back from the header did you put it?

Ive been thinking about putting a switch type "Y" in my 91 burb, let it run open in the country for better feul economy but switched closed to run mufflers in town. the cops here are dix.

Not on my truck, but on a '77 Camaro. They were about 8" back from the header collector. I hated them...way too loud and little (if any) performance gained.

Just be sure to close them about a minute before you shut your engine off. Cold air rushing up the headers and into the combustion chambers can warp vaves if you are not careful

I ran one on my 99 SS car for years. Never put the cap on that thing!! I gutted the cats and ran O2 sims. Sounded great and never had a problem. Get a electric unit for easy open/closed action

Well I dont have enough for a electric cut out but might get the Y type thats cable operated. I heard the leak but I wont be closeing them that much.
