junkyard prices
I havent ever really bought things from a junkyard, so I was wondering how I can find out what things are worth. There are three things in particular that I found in the local yard. Could you tell me what I can expect to pay? The first is a 69 c10 grill. I only need the plastic crosshatch piece. The other thing is a steering wheel that is from an early 70's truck. It's not in perfect shape, it has two cracks in it, but I need it just to hold me over for awhile. And the third thing is a brake booster/master Cylinder from an 73-87 pickup. I am going to do a disc brake conversion in the front. My last question is what exactly do I need to get from the donor truck concerning the booster/mc? Also, is there a particular truck or style booster I should look for, or are they all pretty much the same? This is the first I've dealt with this brake stuff, so I'm just learning from whatever I read here.

Alot of junkyards have a price list they hand you when you walk in.

It can vary wildly from one yard to another. If I were you I would not use a master cylinder out of a junk yard. They are usually quite reasonable priced as rebuilt from Auto Zone and others.

the brake stuff other than the brackets is almost stupid to get from a junk yard. the master cylinder is like no good and wont work or if it does work it wont for long because the seals inside will be dry rotted. a new master cylinder isnt that expensive and even the brake booster being used isnt a good idea its got a rubber diaphram that will be dry rotted especially being that its probably 30 years old and has been sitting

ok, thanks for the info on the booster/mc. I did find one at the junkyard that looked in really good shape, but I guess I will take your advice. So if I go in autozone to look for a rebuild, what do I ask for?

Some yards around me: grill-$10-15, steering wheel-$5-10, brake booster-$10+, master cylinder-$5
That's the low end. Some yards think everything is made of gold. For those add about $10 to each of the above!
