Converting a 250 to power steering Question
I recently bought a PS pump and brackets to convert my 1972 with the 250 straight 6 motor.
Do I have everything I will need here? I read that there was an alternator bracket associated with this type of swap, and I want to be sure I have all the available brackets to mount this to my engine. |

Well, the F-shaped bracket at the bottom of both pictures is an alternator bracket.
You'll need a new pitman arm, power steering box and ragjoint. It looks like the bracket you have on the pump currently is for a big block engine. The correct power steering bracket looks like this (see long alternator bracket; second hole is for PS pump assembly):

Please post more progress pics as you move along. I am working on the same thing myself. I recently read a thread that had a very detailed article from Classic Trucks covering step by step instructions for such a swap.

I have a steering box and arm coming from Teeitup. I have this pump and brackets, and I'm mostly interested in if these are the correct brackets for a 1972 C-30 with the 250 L-6. I guess I need to take some better pics.
Timmo, that article, although very interesting, is about a 60-66 truck, and it has a V8 engine. Last edited by dtlilly; 04-16-2005 at 01:24 PM. |

True... but the swap from manual to power steering will be similar.

All I can tell you is that the big ass long bracket you see for the alternator in my picture is supposed to be (at least one of) the correct brackets for PS setup with the L6 250. I might be able to help more if the parts one of the other boardmembers is sending makes its way this week. If it doesn, I hope to install PS by week-end.

dtilly it looks like you have all the necessary brackets... pulley alignment is the issue now. You have dual waterpump pulley? and a single to add to the harmonic dual style? Thats one way its done.

Rod, I have a dual channel harmonic balancer and a single channel water pump pully.
