Lights flicker 1972 Chevy Truck

HI List!

I am stumped!
My lights(Headlights, dash etc) flicker when driving or parked. I can move the shifter (350, AUTO on the column) and when I put pressure on the gear shift it stops flickering, I can jiggle the shifter and see the lights flicker.

What I have done,
New Battery (still flickers)
New Alternator(still flickers)
I even disconnected the neutral safety switch and still flickers

also I noticed my dimmer switch does not have high beam, (I ordered one)
I have also ordered a new Headlight switch...

I checked the junction on the passenger side by battery and replaced that wire, (still flickers)

Any ideas?

Bad ground. I had the same problem, but basically when you move the shifter, the cab gets it's ground through the linkage. I fixed mine by adding a ground strap between the cab and engine block.

Lights flicker fixed

Yes, after I messed with it for over a month then broke down and ask about it here on the list, took about 4 hours to get a reply, then I tried it and it worked, simple only when the right answer is given.

Thanks again and GREAT Forum!!!!

I have a similar problem, where on the firewall did you attach it?

I put mine on one of the studs for the brake booster. The factory ground straps attach to the firewall on each side of the engine, and run to a valve cover bolt on each head (v-8) if I'm not mistaken.
