grinding upper control arm?

Is it safe to clearance (grind) the upper control arm to clear my new spindles? I got a set of McGhaughys 2.5" drop spindles from a board member, installed the new upper ball joints that came with them and I get some binding when I try turn the wheels. The are hitting pretty bad the top of the spindle. Anybody had to do this to clear there spindles? thanks.

The rim would catch the lower A rim when the full righ/left turn

In the Bell tech installation instructions for their 2.5 drop spindles they indicate spots on your upper control arms which may be ground down to obtain clearance. I have to assume it is safe to do so if they'd put in in writing? Grind away

I had to grind about 3/16" in the contact area to clear my McGhaughys 2.5" drop spindles and have not had any problems, should be fine.

thanks for all the replies guys. Next question, do I have to disassemble everything to loosen the spindle from the top ball joint to gain access to grind on the UCA? I know about the proper removal from the lower ball joint, but it looks like to me the spring is held in by the crossmember, not the UCA. I hate to take everything apart. advice appreciated.
