I don't see why it would be a problem to put a PCV valve in both covers as long as you still have a breather on one of your valve covers to let clean air into the crank case. You wouldn't want to replace the breather with a second PCV valve.

no im wanting to replace the hose that hooks too the bottom of the air filter that sets on the carb i didnt know you had to lrt clean air into the crank case i just figured that since i only have 2 holes in 1 valve cover and 1 hole in the other one that 1 hole is for adding oil 1 for the pcv valve 1 for the hose in the air filter on carb im pretty sure they are all hooked to vacume off the carb except the oil cap which is basicaly a chrome coverd rubber gromet should i have a forth hole?thanks for any input on any of these questions, john

The fat hose coming from your air filter is providing clean air to your crank case, and your carburetor sucks the air and any fuel vapors that are in your crank case up through the PCV valve. You can replace the fat hose coming from your air filter with a breather if you don't want to deal with the hose.

my hei is kinda wore out. check the posts the advance weights sit on and see if they are wore. also check the springs. make sure everything inside is working properly. i think this is part of my hesitation. along with a carb that needs rebuilding.

also, i think stock timing is 8* btdc, but 10 shouldn't really matter i don't think.

just some food for thought...

i'm sure dirt particles can cause the spark to jump around and fire properly, but i think the biggest problem with a hole in the cap would be getting moinsture in the cap causing it to not run or run really rough.
