Tonneau cover on a 77 stepside - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Is anyone aware of any manufacture that makes a tonneau cover for a stepside truck that will not require me to drill any holes? I have some ideas about how to adapt a cover to the truck without any holes, but wanted to see if there is any out there that already have it available first. Thanks.

I made my cover out of plywood, 2x4's and vinyl. Turned out real good. I can sit, jump, lay whatever on it with no problem. No holes.

my stepper came with a custom tonneau, but as you noted, it was the drill holes type.

I did however have to drill 4 small holes on each side to attach the 1" aluminum angle to the bedsides with rivets

Stepside, do you have any more pictures of that cover you made- like how it pivots and things like that. Does it latch down or just rest on that lip? I was thinking up an idea like that and it looks like yours turned out really nice, so I think I might try and go through with it. Anything I should know before I start gathering up parts?

I used 1" aluminum angle & 1" aluminum square tubing, 3/8" plywood. had a buddy weld the aluminum for me. that fron piece is bolted down. the rear pice uses those tabes you see in the one pic to hold the front edge of the rear piece in place. than I have 2 locks, 1/4 turn, like used on pinball machines to secure the rear. it turnes out pretty decent, thanks, John

Thanks, I see what you're saying. I like the idea of the two piece cover. I think I might go to home depot and see what I can find there as far as the aluminum.

Mine is basically the same as stepside454. But. I didn't use aluminum and mine does not sit flush with the sides. Both of which I like, looks great stepside454. Mine is all wood, vinyl and foam cushion.

Thank you for the nice comment, I appreciate it. I lowered mine 20 yrs ago, before the was such a thing as "lowering kits". I used a cutting torch, cut and welded the spring brackets in the back and removed a few leaf springs. I have been looking at doing it again and using a modern lowering kit. Maybe with drop spindles. I also would like to drop the rear alittle more, but I need to c-knotch it. Now days, you can get a c-notch kit where you just cut the frame and weld or bolt in the notch. Much easier these days.

Thanks guys for the comments. I appreciate it. The color is actually a Ford color (I know that is a bad word here). Vintage maroon. I have a 1967 Mustang that painted and I really liked the color, so I had them shoot my truck too. I have to upload more pics tonight (if you really want to see more). Thanks again guys.
