2 speed rear end in a '66

Hey all. I've bothered you with stupid questions in the past but this one I feel is actually worth your time. I bought a 66 C10 a couple weeks, over month now actually, ago with the hopes of getting another one, hopefully in the next week, that I could use to build one good truck out of. The 66 C10 the I am working on getting my hands on has a straight six matted to a four speed tranny and finished off with a 2 speed rear end. My question is, is the two speed rear end factory or not. If not what would that rear end most likely have come from were it could still fit the width of the truck? Second, do any of you have a some links to information about these rearends. I'd love to understand they dynamics of them and also find out what ratios it has.

i'm pretty sure the 2-speeds came in only the bigger-than-one-ton models, primarily in 2 1/2 tons and bigger. I'm not sure on the width of that axle, but i would suspect yours originally came equipped with a 12-bolt rear. If that huge axle looks like it fits perfectly, it may be a shortened drivetrain from one of the larger models. But like I said, I'm not positive.

6066 assembly manual

the 66 came with 3.07, 3.36, 3.73,4.11,4.57 & 5.14 ratios with the last two normally in dualies.with & with out posi for almost any ratio. only overdrive listed is muncie 3spd. 4 spd came in muncie & saginaw varities. six cyl motors available in 66 were: 194, 230,250,& 292 options. with it probably a 250ci. motor in a c10. hope this helps

Like was just mentioned, the two speed rear ends were only in big trucks, and most of them would be to big to even fit under a half-ton truck. My guess is that it may be a quick-change racing axle or something like that. Some pics would help for sure.

It has the switch on the dash for an electrical switching of the rear end and though I'm not for sure, I didn't think that quick change rear ends worked that way. Righ? I will try for some picks this week. I was just hoping that someone could help, and they did... a lot. I'll see what other info I can dig up.
