Does anyone know the proper placement of fender badges / emblems?
Pics?

So far, I guess engine size under front side markers (8-400)

or does the 4X4 badge go there?

There are 2 holes under the side marker and 4 holes on the fender by the door.

I have a 1970 K/20 4X4 with a 402 BB. Thats all I know.

The engine badges go under the C/20 or CST/20 or what ever you have. They didn't go up front untill 71. The 4 wheel drive badges go up there though.

If you have a 4x then it would be a K-20. CST stands for custom sport truck= trim package. Look on the glove box decal

Okay what I heard is that if you have a 307 engine (standard engine) then you have the "4 wheel drive" emblem under the front marker, and then the "C/10" marker on the fender. If your truck was ordered with a 350 (upgrade) then you put the "4 wheel drive" emblem under the front marker,a dn the "C/10"- on the fender AND then the "8 350" goes under it. Only on 70 not 71/72. I have looked into this because I have a 70 blazer with the orig 307 in it, but has since had a 350 put in it.

If one has a 402 Big Block, do I use the 8-400 or the 8-396 emblems (can you tell my truck was pieced together)

69 truck would have 396
70-72 have 400

Since no factory 4x4 big blocks were ever produced, originality may not be an issue, so....

I'd get the 396 emblems if it were me.

Wow, no factory 4x4's w/ a big block?! I'm learning more and more every day (I've only had this since May) This is my first Chevy truck made before 1988 - I'LL NEVER GO BACK to owning a newer truck!

Being that you list having a 70 your 4x4 emblem goes under the front marker light. So your fender emblem towards the door area would have your emblem of C-20, custom 20 or CST 20 or even possible a custom 20 deluxe. Your engine emblem would go underneath that.

If it's a custom deluxe though... I'm not sure if it would have an emblem designating the engine as the custom deluxe emblem would go where the engine emblem was.

If you have a headliner in the truck then you can be pretty sure it was a CST or at least a custom deluxe.

If you have stainless trim around the windshield and rear window, pedals ... thoughs are clues also.

Yeah my VIN# says this is a 1/2 ton 2wd stepside - I guess the cab is. The truck is origionally from Colorado - I wish I could find more info on it.

It is badged "8-350" even though it has a 402.
I picked up a set of 8-400 emblems on ebay for 2 bucks, but now I think maybe those are for the small block 400.

They are not for a small block 400. Never put them in a 67-72. They are for the 402 big block I'm sure.

Your vin number wouldn't identify thats its a step side. You would need the model number from the glove box sticker to ID model type... your vin would tell you if its a 2wd or 4wd... or a cab and chassis and the engine size being either v8 or a 6 or V6.

Oops - I went by the VIN decoder in the LMC catalog - it says that if the 4th number is a "4" it is a stepside, and if it is a "34" it is a fleetside. I see the decoder on this site is different.
Thanks - I was starting to worry about just how many trucks make up my one truck. - maybe its less than I thought!
I'll go check the glovebox.

Well... at least I know the glovebox is from a 2wd fleetside - the vin on the glovebox door and that on the cab itself are different - I guess it shall remain a mystery...

All the fourth number of a vin tells you is if it was a truck with a box or without..a 4 being with a box... but not what kind of box... only the model number identifies what kind of box... and a 34 would mean a fleetside box.. but again... thats all.. it dosen't tell you if it's a short box or a long box. More model numbers off the glove box are needed to determine the original wheel base... then you know if its short box or long.

Its pretty much a mute point as it seems things have been changed... not that uncommon.... but if you every want to put in a glove box sticker and want the correct details to match the truck... myself or others could give you the correct variety of model numbers.... and most of the vin also. Rod

write a list of what option your truck and then figure what the correct option number is for the tag and make your owm. I know you'll be back with more questions yet.

I would too. The Mark IV engine deserves to be badged regardless of the originality of the truck it resides in. My '68 396 c-20 is going to get an added 396 emblem with the repaint. They didn't come (the badges) on ANY '68 396s from what I've researched...you could order the motor but no emblems were put on yet. It wasn't like a 427 Yenko Camaro with added badges from the dealer.

I'd put a 427 emblem on a built-up 4x4 if I went through the trouble of building it.

I might even drop the RV mirrors on the Camper Special and go with sport mirrors just to get lean a bit...Nothing ruined...only added. I once put a script-style set of Chevrolet emblems from the back of a '68 Impala on the fenders of a '78 3/4 ton 4x4 where the Silverado emblems were and it looked great. I got a lot of compliments on that and it probabally got me a full grand more from the bright-eyed kid who bought it. He still thinks its the coolest thing...

I hated to see that one go...
