Your cab had a sunroof?! I was thinking about doing it to my truck. That takes some huge balls to cut through your roof.

Looks like you reskinned yours?

Great work..I have questions...

Man that is one solid cab...hats off bro!

What product did you use as undercoating and inside spray? Can that be sprayed in a bed or repainted? I have some lighter-but-getting-bigger rust in my '68 396 and would like to strip the interior, sandblast the base areas--even the inside of the still solid cab corners--and then have it repainted with the rest of my truck to match the rest of the interior.

I'd like to undercoat/tuffcoat the bottom of my bed and the inside at the same time and then repaint the bed the same color as the rest of the truck and interior...and I think it would look great if it were all the same feel and texture.

I sprayed ppg's dp90 then i covered the inside floor and firewall in sound deadner pads and then sprayed hippoliner over it all. It should kill some of the road noise. The roof was not to bad i found a good roof at a local pick and pull just cut it of at the pillars then took it apart first to find out how it all came apart. it really came out better than i expected took a little more than a weekend to do. I also added a sound deadner between the outer and inner roof skin. Thanks everbody for the compliments i am trying to get it all done for the summer. I will be taking the cab down to the bodyshop i manage in the next couple weeks to spray alll theinside and jambs i will take pictures.

Great work! Wish I had some of that talent. Hate to bother people for pics... Do you have any more like the 2nd one showing a little more detail how you dissassembled it? Don't plan on doing anything like this. I do find it very interesting.

Nice work.

I like how you use the frame as work bench for the cab. I did the same thing when I did my 67.

That is some nice work. Now you need to come to my house, my cab only needs both rockers, both cab corners and above the windsheild inside replaced, as well as some small holes on the cowl.

roof skin how to

After i got the old roof cut of at the pillars from the pick and pull i took it and started triming all the pieces of the inner and outer skin. This took the longest there is a lot of spot welds. the tricky part is the inner skin you have to bend one corner of the inner skin to get it to slide past the windshield pillar (dont worry you can straighten that out after you install it into your cab) i then just cleaned it all up put the inner skin in first clamping it in place and then welding up the holes that i had drilled to remove the old spot welds. then i put a large piece of sound deadner on the inner skin (alot bigger and thicker then the factory one) then i lined up the new outer skin making sure that the back of the skin were it meets the back of the cab was perfect and fit really tight because you can only weld in a couple spots here. I then took the roof off for a few minutes. Then using 3m's panel bonding adhesive (part#8115) i ran a thick bead all the way along the back cab seam then i put the roof on clamped the back of the cab seam in three spots one in the center through the dome light hole with needle nose visegrips and one at either outside edge.then i just welded up the spot weld holes ground my welds and primed it. There is one thing that i would have done different and that is i would have sanded the inside of the roof before i installed it because sanding above your head really sucks lol. Attached is some pictures during the process.
