1971 C10: CST or Cheyenne?

Folks,

I recently started work on my Dad's 1971 C10. It is marked "Cheyenne" on the fender sides, but mentions the option "Custom Sport Truck" on the dataplate inside the glove compartment. Does this mean somebody in the past made this truck a Cheyenne clone?

Also, there is mention of "Blue Vinyl Custom T". Does this refer to the interior or the roof of the truck!?

Thanks for your help!

Ray Wilson

In 1971 They changed the term "CST" to "Cheyenne". What you have is a Cheyenne truck. GM was a little slow at changing the option sticker description.
Also, blue vinyl is the color of your interior, seat, door panels, ect.

Joe,

Thanks for the reply. That's good news. I was worried a bit as I was going to perform a stock restoration. So far there are only a few immediate issues. The gas tank is full of rust, so I am gonna order a new one. I'm leaning towards leaving it in the cab. Secondly, there is rust to tackle, of course. The most worrying is rust above the windsheild. Curiously, the transmission lower sheild is missing, leaving the bottom of the flywheel exposed.
When the truck was put in storage years ago, the engine ran like an absolute top. Shift mechanism is sloppy and in need of rebuild, at both ends. (The shifter end, and the linkage at the transmission end.)

Best regards and thanks for the help.

Ray

Joes right. There were no CSTs in`71.In`71 GM used 402s,the VIN-spec read 396!My`71 CustomCamper/20 said CustomSportTruck on VIN-spec and no mention of Cheyenne anywhere on yhe truck. But,it had all the Cheyenne goodies:headliner,carpet,w/g trim, scroll seat...

And for good measure, mine has the CST trim pkg in the Box with the cheyenne badges too. I noticed on this sticker pic that he has the 4 season AC, mine says all season on the sticker. Is there any differnece?

Yes,some places only have 2 or 3 seasons.Really,I don`t think there is more than one system. That is an interesting bit o`trivia, though.

Mike, SpecialK, Phlegm,

Thanks for the replies and the welcome. Right now that A/C unit is "no season"! It'll take a lot of parts to get cold air coming out of that puppy again. But it is interesting that there were two different notations seen on these stickers. (all season and 4-season) I wonder if it was a copyright thing; didn't one company have to call their trucks "all-wheel-drive" because "four-wheel-drive" was already taken?
Mike, I wish I could make those meets this weekend. I'm just winding down my overseas tour with the military (England), and am on the wrong side of the Atlantic. I look forward to Carlisle as well.

And just for fun, here's another picture:

By the way, there are two more Chevy C10s' on the road I live on. One is a daily driver, the other looks like it could be, but hasn't moved lately. I would have thought that Pennsylvania trucks would be lone gone.

Best regards,

Ray

That looks to be a Chyeyenne super, with the top trim and the badge is bigger then mine. The Cheyennes only had the lower woodgrain trim on the body (just learned this myself from some folks on the board). Thats a nice looking ride. I think the Blue Vinyl Custom T is probably the blue interior, mine is original black interior but with carpet and the headliner that is part of the CST pkg. It is not listed on the VIN sticker as a color option

Here is a PIC of mine so you can see the difference on the trim and badge.

You actually could get upper and lower trim on a custom deluxe in 1971 and 1972 if it was ordered with two tone paint. I have seen a couple that way.
