Trac Bar bushings - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Need to change trac bar bushings. Are they pressed in? How can you get them in without a press? I have heard of putting the bar in the oven & the bushings in the freezer, however I don't want my wife to catch me putting a trac bar in the oven.

I do not have a torch to heat the bar.

gmc pauls sells brand new track bars with the bushings already installed for 35 bucks. not worth my time at that price to fight with the bushing to put new ones in an old rusty track bar

I already have the bushings so at this point I better use them.

well once you get the old ones out clean up the holder use some silicone grease on the bushings and use a vice or c-clamp to press the new ones in. or if you have a small hyd bottle jackget everything lined up and press them in with that

I would take the factory bushings back and install the poly ones from Energy suspension. they come in pieces and install nicely with a bench vice.
