difference between cab & chassis and dually?

I just bought an 85 4 door crew cab 1 ton with a work bed on it, and was trying to determine if it was a dually or a cab & chassis. How can I tell the difference? The brake hubs are right up next to the spring perchs, and It looks like the outer wheels stick out past the rest of the body, but I'm still unsure! Maybe someone has some deminsions or something! Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Call a Chevy dealer and have them run the VIN. That will tell you.

I have an 84 crewcab cab & chassis with dually set up. Sounds like you have the same, by your discription. I looked up VIN codes and didn't say either way within our years. Anyway, the measurement between the inner wheels is about 45 inches. Mine was a stake bed that I replaced with a fleetside LWB bed. Had to put 2" lift blocks between springs and rear for wheel well clearance, instead of minitubs. Outter wheel treads are completely within the wheelwells. C&C will have a 14 bolt Full Floater (extra narrow) so it will be just as wide as the front axle. a Dually pickup will have a Dana 70 in it, and will be considerably wider than the front axle. the easiest way to identify the axles are the cover bolts, the 14 bolt will obviously have 14, and the Dana 70 will have 10. also, the 14 bolt has a bolt in pinion housing.
