It looks like a posi to me. I think I see a spring in there.

Yeah, I think those springs have something to do with the posi clutches in there.

Posi...or not???

Yes that is definately a limited-slip/posi carrier. However, does it work??
If it's still on the vehicle, put trans in neutral, block front wheels, disengage
parking brake, jack one rear tire off the ground and see if you can spin the
tire that is in the air. If tire spins, posi unit needs work. if tire dosen't want
to move, looks like your posi-unit works!!
Good luck,

rwgregory

Start engine and put into gear, If your truck drives off the jack, then you have a working posti ( do NOT do this in the garage if the garage door is closed ! )

Well, you probably can't apply as much torque to the wheel as your engine can. Unless you transplanted a Honda into there. But, if it did spin you would have known for sure that it was toast.

i did the by hand slip test on my rear end before i put it in the truck, and we had a long jack handle throught the wheelstuds trying to turn it, it felt really tight... but a few times in the snow it slipped.

just go do a burnout and se how many marks it leaves
