Help decoding engine#

Ok well I just uncovered my engine number...I have no clue how to decode them so if you guys could help me out that would be great.

VK 131800 (maybe VR..I'm not exactly sure cause the second stamped letter isn't very clear its worn.)
W-098783

Is this even the right number? I got it off the passenger side of the engine and on a little block right in the front of the engine directly under the head.

I tried looking around the internet but couldn't find anything...well I found stuff just not with these numbers.

Thanks

EDIT: I've been searching the internet and I think the number I posted might just be the ENGINE ASSEMBLY DATE / SUFFIX CODE.

An update..I've been looking for all the numbers I could find on the block and heres what I believe to be the casting number on the back on the engine. It was a raised number.

GM
14016379(is what I believe to be the number)...I had a whole mirror/flashlight system going on to see that number and it was greasy so I can't be sure thats the correct number. However I did clean it up pretty good I know I'm at least extremely close.

Casting number: 14016379...Size: 350...Year: 77-79...Main Cap Bolts: 2 or 4.

I found this on the internet..is this information accurate.

I still have no idea what the number in my first post is..or what it decodes to.

The casting number was used in 78-85 Chevrolet 350 cars and trucks...so anybodies guess. The stamped number should start with one letter. Wire brush the heck out of it then use some white or blue chalk on the letters to really make them stand out. The first letter should be just one letter to designate the engine factory, V or F - Flint, S - Saginaw, T - Towanda, M - GM Mexico, etc. the next foor will designate the date of manufacture 0131 is January 31, the last two or three letters will designate vehicle type and transmission, etc.

So it should be one letter, four numbers and 2-3 letters. You are looking in the right place...just check it again and use chalk to highlight the letters.

Ok I broke out the carb cleaner, wire brush, toothbrush and some white chalk. Once I cleaned the little block I rubbed chalk on the letters really good then i wiped off the excess. Im now 100% positive the number says VK 131800 with the number right underneath reading, W 098783.
