EGR valve question

I'm thinking about using a block off plate on the EGR opening but want to know how this will effect the running of the engine. Any thoughts would be great. It's a 1985 350 V8 in my 1971 GMC.

Is it a tuned port injection motor and does the EGR valve has an electrical hook up wire coming from it? If there's no wire on the EGR valve you should be able to block it off without affecting the performance.
