Post RUNNING AGAIN!!

had alot of problems with my ignition, tried to adjust timing and it got worse and worse to no avail each time i played with it tothe point it stopped running all together.

bought some new taylor 8mm plug wires, new bosch plugs, new cap and new rotor, left the coil alone.

truck runs perfect now, i always used to have to let it warm up for a minute or two each morning if i wanted to drive it, now it starts up immediately like a new car (truck has HEI) and it runs great.

3 of the old plug wires werent getting power to the spark plugs consistantly, when i put on the timing light to each wire i could tell something was wrong, also all my spark plugs were covered in black crap amd some oil too

thanks alot guys, come early june im buying a new crate motor, im gonna need alot more help when that comes.....

It feels good to get your truck running after you have messed with about everything right. In my experiances i was also having ignition problems and after i bought new spark plug wires, cap, rotor, coil, points, and condensor she was still giving me problems. Then I narrowed it down to the distributor because the one i had had a wiggley shaft. Ran a lot better and it felt great not to have the engine back fire. As for your plugs with oil, i cant put a criminal to the cause but i do know that it is bad. Pumpkin Truck.

nope doesnt need rings.... it needs a whole damn new engine is what it needs! jk, it does need rings but it needs alot more too, not only do i find oil on the spark plugs but i find it on the damn carb (im guessing from all the backfiring i was having from ignition maybe?) rear main seal leaks ALOT, heads leak a little, i think i stopped the leaks out the valve covers and oil pan (cant really tell with all the other leaks though)

but now that its running so good maybe ill hold off buying a goodwrench crate and save up the extra 2k to buy a something with a little more ummmph to it.

Take it to the coin opp and blast all that crap off of it. If you go every week, it'll be nice and clean by the time you dig in there. Nothing sucks worse than workin in sludge. I've already towed the Longhorn to the coin opp about 3 times.
