TPI fuel mileage
I'm in the middle of swapping in a 350 TPI with a 700r4 tranny into my truck. I think it will be a great combo for a truck in many aspects.
Does anyone else have this combo. What kind of fuel mileage are you getting? I'm hoping for 20mpg highway. Thanks |

Depending on your rear ratio, 20 isn't an impossible milage rating to get, esspecially with EFI of any sort

i had an 87 camaro with that set up. of course it was a lighter, more aerodynamic car but it would get around 18-21MPG.
you should try to run around a 373 in your truck. i think that would be just about right.

I have 3.08 gears
and the camaros weigh aroun 3700 lbs, and my truck weighs around 4000, so that's not much of an issue....but with the aerodynamics of a brick. |

i wouldn't run that gear but that is just my opinion, others may agree or disagree.

^ I agree, when that thing shifts into OD your final ratio will be about 2.10.

i think a 3:42 gear would be better. i am running a 5 speed with 3:73 and only get 15

I know I'll be running a very high gear ratio...but..
for example, my car has 3.42 gears and 50% overdrive (1.71 final drive ratio) and some f-bodies have 2.73 gears with 70%ish overdrive. Granted, my example is with an LS1 car that has more power, but the TPI engines make a lot of torque at low rpms, so I think it will be ok. I will see how it runs, and if it needs gears I may change them, or get a different torque converter. |

I'm in the process of doing a 383/700R4. Should have the motor installed in the next few weeks. I'm thinking of running a gear in the mid 3:?? ratio. Fuel economy will be a major consideration.
