Custom Seat Frames

Is there a company that makes bench seat frames with contoured foam for our trucks. I'd like something like a Tea's seat but they don't sell them uncovered.

Try these people... Not cheap but I've seen the stuff in person and I was impressed. You get what you pay for. They also sell an interior kit that is tempting.

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. Have you ever heard of Mellahide? That's what alot of guys are using around here. It looks like leather but is about 15 dollars a yard.

No, I've never heard of it. The name looks familiar but I'm not sure what it is. We're doing some interior work on a street rod right now and we're using Ultraleather. There's also ultrasuede and they both look and feel like the real deal but water won't mess them up.
The rod doors company is a good company. I've never heard of anything but good words about their stuff. The price isn't too bad for the full kit if you're willing to do some work yourself.

Are you using the Mellahide stuff?

but my personol opinion is it's a real waste of money, take a tape measure go to a junkyard and get a good late model seat take it to your local upholstery shop and they'll foam it any way you want it and cover it again in any type of covering any pattern and you'll end up with the same if not better product for 30% of what these places are charging

We've used glide seats (buckets and benches) in our street rods before. They're a nice product too but the professional upholstry shops don't like them for some reason.
We recovered a couple of Dodge buckets and they were harder than heck to do. My experience has shown that most factory seats were never designed to be recovered so you have to do a few modifications to the frame and spend some time planning on where to anchor the new material if you change the design. You need to add bars to hog ring to. Junkyard seats can also benefit you because if you're careful when you take it apart, the old material will help you make a new pattern. Definately cheaper but not easier.

I've sat in these at a show. The bucket back bench seats are really comfortable. I think you can also buy patterns from them.

i guess i'm just real cheap, cant see spending $700 for a seat frame and foam for my model a project when i got a perfectly usable piece that my upholstery guy has no problems recovering for $18 at pull-and save, the finished product (red&white mettalflake naughahyde rolled and pleated) will be just as good and less than 1 in a thousand people will know or even care who ,where or what the frame comes from
i'll spend my savings on chrome so the car will go faster!!!!

There's lots of parts on there and some interesting threads. My family and I build steel and glass street rods. I don't care for some of the anti-fiberglass attitudes on there but it's worth checking out and there are lots of creative members building on budgets. You may find some of it pretty interesting.
The guys on there just aren't as nice as the members here though. Just thought I would share that with you.
