I glass beaded mine off of my jeep rims.They turned out real nice.

That would certainly do it, but I was thinking more along the lines of something I could do in my shop-like some kind of chemical stripper, like acetone or something.

I used Aircraft paint stripper (thats what its called), got a gallon from Kragen Auto for $20. It bubbles it up and you can hose it off. You may have to do it a couple of times to get all the clear off. Wont hurt the finish.

I used something like lacquer thinner or paint thinner on my aluminum tool box. It didn't hurt the aluminum, then I polished with California Customs Purple polish.
