How to do you tell a van tilt from a truck tilt?
I'm getting ready to start looking for a tilt for my 72, but am not sure how to tell the difference between a van or a truck column. I'd rather not pay a premium price and then find out I bought a more plentiful van model. Any help would be appreciated.

on a van tilt the steering shaft sticks out farther than a true truck tilt theres like 2and 1/2 inch differance in them the van being the longer one

Is there a tell tale sign to look for if you don't have a stock one to look at? I've seen a couple on ebay but am hesitant to go for it without knowing for sure.

i have van tilts that have been converted to truck specs and if i didnt tell you, you wouldnt know the difference. and they are cheaper than buying an original and rebuilding it. have them for column or floor shift.

van column on left...note the higher neutral safety switch location and the longer lenght of the shaft out the bottom.

nik,,, a few easy ways are to look at the length of the shaft sticking out past the tail baring (the van is longer then the truck) and the neutral safety switch on post 74 columns is high on the column and the truck is low...also i think before 74 the van column had the horse shoe plug like the truck turn signal harnes plug...after that it was a flat in-line plug also a dead give away that it is a van column... also if the column if fresh out of a van it will have a big rubber weather boot at the base of the column... van column are the same thing with a few very easy modifications... i have 6 van columns that i will be shaking down and putting on ebay... i only payed $20.00 to $40.00 and they are seriously/realistly worth about $125.00 top dollar for a premo... but i see guys get $175.00 to $250.00 for a van column... whatever...but thats the price that true truck columns start there price at...

Look at how there advertised on ebay and such..the van tilts are for the street rodder crowd also....so its not always a truck bidder your up against.
