Removing stain (Sap?) from paint - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My truck is covered with what looks like sap. There are small brown stains with a small black speck in the middle. I have tried several things to remove them:

Clay bar
Bug Tar remover (kero)
Meguires paint scrub
Dawn detergent

I have been out of town for a while, and there really aint any trees directly over it? What ever it is it has been baking in 90+ degree weather for several days

The stain can be scrubed of, but the small black spec in the middle takes several minutes to scrub.

Would Prep-Sol do any good?

I have read news group articles listing everything from Rubbing alchaol to Coke!

If it truly is sap, the only thing I've ever used that works is gasoline and a soft cloth. And no, I've never had the gasoline hurt the paint. If it's sap it should be somewhat sticky - the black speck has me puzzled though. Never saw sap with a black speck.

I believe it is some kind of small bloom that fell and is now past the "sticky" phase. I tried Gasoline, kerosene. This stuff is in the paint and hard.

The only thing that seems to work is removing a layer of paint with lots of elbow grease

I may try the body scrub with a random orbital buffer?

Have you had rain lately? Or perhaps maybe a house burn down in your area? I had simmeler spots on my truck from the rain. With all the wild fires all arround the west coast the ash and suit is in the atmosphere. When Mt. St. Hellens blew out here the ash traveled around the world 3 or four times they figured. All of the debree in the atmosphere comes down with the rain and when it evaporates off the truck it leaves a black spot in the middle. Just a thought... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Makes a very fine cut cleaner that will take them off I bet. You would probably want to wax it good then after u are finished with that. Apply it the same as you would if you were waxing your truck.
