Why are these bumper brackets different?
These two brackets are the same length as my aftermarket sport fleetside outer bumper brackets, except these are both heavier weight. I am comparing just these two outer ones of the same side. My question is: Was the cut-out (circled in yellow) on one of these factory done or homemade? Why the cut-out? Different application maybe? Or home remedy?

that bottom one looks to me like a front outer for power steering thats why its notched to clear the power steering box . its been a while since i looked at mine but pretty sure thats what it is

They are deffinitely rear brackets. The one with the cut out is similar to this aftermarket one.

brackets
I'm going to go out on a limb here. I thought that there were different brackets (maybe ones with notch cutout?) for the shortbeds with leaf springs. I could be wrong though. I think they may have been notched to clear the rear spring hangers???? Brian

When I mounted my sport bumper on my 4x4 LB , with a set of the aftermarket brackets pictured, I wasn't really sure if I mounted it correctly. I sandwitched the frame between the inner and outer brackets. The fit was tighter than most I have seen and didn't need dust shields. although the chrome bumper looked good on the truck at a distance, it doesn't quite fit like it was made specifically for these trucks alone. I bought the unnotched ones on ebay a while ago because they were advertised as front 71-72 4x4 brackets but they weren't. I kept them anyway.

They look like brackets for sport bumper with overload springs. I had to do this to my 71 when I replaced the step bumper for the chrome bumper. Harold

k10 shorty
Those may be for a K10 shortbox. It was a one of a kind due to the spring hangar location. And very few came with a sport bumper besides. $$$$$

Could someone post a picture or sketch on the proper way to attach the rear sport bumper brackets to the frame and the correct position of the bumper in relation to the back of the bed and bottom of the tailgate.
