Radiator Problem

My radiator leaks so badly now that when I fill it up that it will pour out with a stream that is a little bigger than an 1/8" in diameter. Obviously it doesn't take very long to drain and it is inside the four-core about one third up from the bottom. Is this terminal? Should I take it to some one to fix or go ahead and cough up the $180 for a new one?

Thanks

um... around here(creston IA) its free to have them look at it and tell you if its ruined or not, so i would take it in. chances are that if it is that big of a leak and nothing was pushed through it, then it is bad, probably rotted through. where are you looking for a replacement?

What caused the hole?If it is corrosion,I would look into another one.I don't know what it would cost to rebuild.

I just bought a 4 row off ebay for my dads truck brand new with a lifetime warranty for $138 plus $15 shipping. Took 2 days to get it. I just called the number in the auction with a credit card. The company has them on there everyday. Here is the link:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33602.

There is a product called Bars Leak that has worked for me to stop leaks in the radiators. There are others also but that is the one that comes to mind.
If the radiator is corroded then a new one is in order. Being inside the outer row of cores makes me wonder what caused the hole. It is possible to pull that tube and solder the openings in the top and bottom tanks. You lose one tube and maybe the one on the outside of it but with a four core that won't affect cooling capacity.
Find out what caused the leak and go from there.

I got one from them too. Worked great. I tend to have the "screw it, get a new one" personality though...

Curious -What brand are the radiators they are selling on Ebay? A good price for a 4 row around here is about $150.

The one I got off ebay was a 4 row Modine with the heater outlet. Paid about 135 and they brought it to my house for 15$. Came from radiator.com or radiator express.

For that price I think I will go with a new one, It is over thirty years old so it probaly be best to just get a new on. The leak started small and then got bigger so I would assume errosion.

They originally sent me a 3 row without the heater outlet. It was a cheap one made in Brazil or someplace. I called them and told them I needed the heater outlet and they sent the really nice 4 row Modine. No extra charge. Just something to be aware of. They are really easy to deal with.

Yes The www.radiator.com people are very easy to work with. thats where I bought my 4 Core at for cheap and have not had one problem with it. as far as the bars leaks and the pepper trick goes these should be used as mere quick fixes until the problem at hand can be fixed. These items build up to clog the hole but also build up in other areas you don't want them.
