I've got a '72 K20 and went in to get plates today. They were going to charge me $321.61 for the collector plates. I about crapped my pants because I was expecting it to be about half that price. Granted the cost is for 5 years, but it still seems high to me for an old truck.

They didn't have any collector plates in so I have to go back next week. Should I question that price?

In VA I registered my truck with 1970 licsense plates for a one time only fee of $35. Sounds like you live in a place where they rip you a new one for vehicle reigstration.

Due to weight fees my 72 C20 is $135 annually. Would be <$60 if it were a C-10.

Pennsylvania is $75 one time fee for antique plates (for cars). I think trucks might be a little more, will find out soon.

$300 + for 5 yrs. sounds like you're gettin' it pretty good. You in CA ??

every state is different, if you don't like the price your state charges you could alwats make it your former state

Whew!!! I thought NJ sucked!? We have 2 options for "Collector" vehicles. First option is the standard "Antique Auto" tags( tags have a prefix of "QQ" on them) that are a one time fee of I believe $45 or $50 with no inspection. The second option is available for vehicles that don't qualify for street rod or antique tags. With this you keep your regular tags and and get a "collectors registration voucher" at the DMV for an intial fee of $20 over & above your regular tags then $10 every 2 years additional. You have to take the vehicle to inspection but then they only check the odometer. No emmissions, lights, horn, ect... I am running this on both my 91' and my 72'.

Yup I had '91 Chev ext cab dually 1 ton and the Ca. weight fees were outragous

Here its $5 to $10 for collecter plates (one time fee) depending on what GVW your vehicle happens to be. If the vehicle is before 1934 it gets Pioneer plates and after 34 it gets Antique plates. I beleive you can also have a plate from the year your vehicle is made on it if you want but you have to supply the plate.

Your all kidding right......you wouldn't believe what plates are here.

My 20 year old harley is $2400 a year in the city.
Collector plate mean to public show show and garage service only insurance here...can't drive it elsewhere. And you better have the story correct on the show your going too.

"Collector Vehicle" plates are about $50 for vehicles 30 years and older in WA state. That is a one-time fee and you never have to go through an emissions again. The restrictions are driving to shows and for "occasional pleasure driving". I've never been stopped since the plates have been on, but I'd like to see them prove I'm not getting some pleasure out of driving my classic truck...

Hey Bobalouie, how about that manure truck that jackknifed on the highway? There's filth-muck all over the place and you should see my shoes!

I just got my registration renewal notice today for my 72 Chevy truck short step side bed. Regular plates:
Registration Fee= $40
Vehicle License Fee= $4
Weight Fee= $24
County/District Fees= $10.

Total= $78.
California.

In NC regular tags $21.50 a year, registration and tag have to be in truck but you can put tag of year (mine is 1969) on truck. No inspection of any kind required if 25 years or older.

I think mine where $135 for five years and a one time emissions test for the same time. I wish we could get the tags that match the year built.

I bought my truck on Dec. 31, 1999. When I went to get my tag the following week, I was handed my Antique and told "$25 please!" (That is for as long as I own the truck, not annually.) The even better part is that I was holding on to a credit slip for a tag that I had on a 1987 Buick Grand National that I only owned for two months. Someone tracked me down and gave me $2500 more that I paid for it. I wound up still having a credit of $13 and change after picking up my truck tag!! YES!!
