Starter Heat Shield?
A friend of mine is having problems with his headers
 heating up his starter so it wont start the truck. Do regular parts store carry heat shields for starters?? Any suggestions where to get one?

depending on where you are, advanced auto, autozone, napa or oreilly's can order them. Usually takes 1 day I believe. Or order it from summit then 2 day it.

Most autoparts stores carry them, if not Jegs or Summit has them with alot of styles to pick from.. cost is 20.00 to 30.00 bucks. Good luck.

Fixed mine with a remote (Ford) solenoid.

I just made one for my truck and it didn't cost anything. I took another starter like mine and a piece of satin polished aluminum and eyeballed it and cut it out mounting brackets and all in one piece. Looks good too! Then I installed it on my truck. I atached it to the outer solenoid bolt with a nut and to the starter motor endcap top bolt.

If you have a salvage yard close by you can grab a starter off most any '88 - 96 chevy/gmc truck with a 5.7. They used factory heat shields that didnt do to bad.
