original engine color

This may be a dumb question but I have a '67 chevy with a 250 6 cylinder, the engine was painted chevy orange, I am restoring the truck frame off, and I can't find any info anywhere that tells me what color the original motor is. I have a '68 parts truck with a blue engine, and was wondering if my engine is supposed to be blue instead of orange. Can somebody help me with this, I want to go back all original.

Early Chevy 235s were blue. 62 was the last year for them. Most 250s and 292s I've seen are orange. Not certain about the later years though.

I know there are some GM motors that are blue, but I don't know of any F*rd motors that are orange (or Red). I always go with the 'Chevy Red-Orange' no matter what, unless it's a boat motor, then black is OK. I just always thought there was something not right about a blue GM motor.

'67 and '68 L6s were all Chevy Engine Orange. The rattlecan color is the same as the factory color. Early ('63) 292s were a weird apple green [because 261s were green] while the 230s + 250s were blue, but by '67 all Chevy engines were Chevy Engine Orange.

Yeah, Chevy went to blue even on small blocks in the late 70's. My 81Z's 350 is blue.

unless it's color matched to the body color. I've saw some cars and trucks that have strayed from the factory orange/blue to the color of the vehicle and look even better.
