I was just looking over my notes on things my truck needs and remebered that before I started taking it apart I replaced the oil pan seal and oil pump. Then the first time I fired it up the oil pressure gauge went all the way past H. Does anybody know what could have caused this?

all I can think of is if it was a hi volume pump, the gauge will read higher than normal...

If it is a factory guage make sure that you got the right sending unit.

There were a few diffrent ones.

I remember a engine I did and I put on a low pressure sending unit and it went way past the high mark.

Got the right one and problem solved.

mine does that every time I start it. factory mechanical gauge with hi volume, hi pressure pump. It almost never drops below H unless I am at idle and at full temp. dont worry about it.

I would get a aftermarket guage and see what it says.

When I took mine apart it said 60psi on it. Im assuming thats what the H mark would be. Easy to get above that with new tight bearings and a high vol/press pump.

I guess I won't worry to much about it. That is unless is starts shooting oil out where it shouldn't. Then again an aftermarket gauge may be my best option.
