who's installed a Sanden a/c compressor in their 73-87?

I just did, and was wondering how to wire it up to the factory a/c compressor harness. Any help appreciated.

I installed mine in '94 and just connected the compressor lead up to the existing wire for the compressor.

I don't have a Sanden compressor yet, but I am going to use one on my BB project... I already have the Alan Grove bracket for it. I was under the impression the only electrical connection was the clutch. Is there also a pressure switch? Which model Sanden are you using? The model number I am looking at is #4509.

Happen to have the Alan Grove part number? Thinking about using a Sanden too.

I am using part number 122R for the a/c because I want to move the compressor to the passenger side. This should help clean up the engine bay a bit since ALL the a/c components and hoses will be on the same side. Of course this means I need to move the alternator to the driver side, so I also got part number 222L. These parts numbers are for BB with long water pump.

I'm using the AG brackets as well. Really nice stuff. Fit perfect.
As far as the Sanden goes, my compressor just has the one black lead coming off the clutch...guess I'll just splice it to the factory compressor's power wire and ground it to the bracket. I'm leaving everything else as factory...including the presure switch on the drier.

Hey SC, did your brackets come painted or did you have to paint them yourself? Please post a report on how the Sanden works when you get everything going.

The brackets were unpainted.
I'll post when I get the a/c recharged.

Like I said above, I installed mine in '94, and it has worked great. I changed over to 134A at the same time I installed the compressor. Used a kit from Vintage Air which included everything except the evaporator. I wanted to use all the factory air controls and ductwork. The system has worked perfectly, going on the 11th year. I can try to take some pictures of my set-up as my brackets are much different.

Well, I got the new A/C lines made, new drier and orifice tube. We flushed the condenser and evaporator, and vacuumed/charged up the compressor with 134a...no leaks and everything works great...blows real cold, though not as cold as the R12 that was in there before, but still, cold enough for me. I thought the big block might run a little hotter, but it stayed right at 200 degrees all day today in 90+ heat and stop and go traffic...that big-ass 4-core radiator does get the job done.
Sweeeeet...will be a cool summer.
Oh yeah, I just spliced the black power wire from the Sanden comp to the factory green a/c comp wire...no ground...pressure switch as factory and works fine.
Later, SC.
