Radio Falls In

Got the "new" AM radio in and got the knobs today. Put them on and when I push any of the pushbottons the radio gets pushed into the dash. What is the deal? Am I doing somthing wrong. It got dark and I quit.. it was time for supper.

There are...dang it can't think of the word...trim rings that go on before the knobs that hold the radio in place. They look like the ones on the headlight and wiper switches, just not as thick. That is what you need. Sounds like you need those. Should be easy to find at a junkyard. By the way, did you grow up in Norwood? I'm from Fordland originally. Good luck, Jeff.

yes, they screw on to the shafts prior to the knobs pushing on. I don't have any pics, mine went away many years ago. Its pretty straight forward tho. Radio goes in the dash, and screw the retainers on. Push the knobs on and you are ready to go. Jeff.

Hmm.. I couldnt get mine to screw on. I couldn't get my radio pushed from the back out of the hole far enough to let the chrome pieces reach the threads.

Whoa hold on here, the nuts that hold the radio in arent like the ones for the dash, they are actual nuts. There is a cage type of piece( i dont know what else to call it) it kinda recesses into the hole then a small nut goes on each knob, they arent flush with the dash, they are sunk in there a bit. Then a chrome disc goes on each side that cover that stuff up, one of those discs is an adjuster for the radio sound, then the black knobs go on. Its kinda hard to explain what the parts the hold the radio in look like.

A pic would be great. Or even a drawing scanned in.

Maybe draw a side view of it too to show the depth of it, the thing kinda looks like a squished bell shape

Good drawing, you really need those two cages to mount the radio. It took a lot of hunting to find mine. Here's a pic

Anybody have a picture of the radio(not installed) with brackets attached and maybe the speaker? I have an AM radio out of a 68 I'm going to put in mine but don't have any idea about the mounting for the speaker or back of the radio. Thanks,
