Help! 2/3 Row to 4 Row Radiator Conversion
What did I do wrong?
I have a 1971 K10 4x4 with a 1970 C10 body. Who ever did the conversion I THINK put the correct fan shroud in because it fit the 2/3 row radiator well. I ordered a new 4-row radiator on line. $153 to my front door. Then I ordered the new 4-row upper and lower brackets and pads from GMC Paul's. Everything appeared to fit right... Until I tried to re-install the fan shroud. It simply didn't fit. It was VERY close but not right. I finally made little metal spacers to hold the top of the shroud. There is one zip tie per side on the bottom holding it in place down there. I spent a lot of money to "do it right" and now all I got is a kluged POS. I didn't mention that my nice metal lines I bent for the tranny cooler no longer worked because I bought the CORRECT radiator with the turned up lower hose conneciton. The lines I previously bent didn't work with the turned up lower hose. Right now I have a piece of rubber hose on 1/2 of the connections to the cooler. When I first installed the cooler I used rubber and two months later I was on the side of the road with a burst hose. I'll have to get more metal line and bend up the correct line for the new set-up. My question is for anybody who converted from a 2/3 row to a 4 row radiator on a K10 with a small block in the factory position. Did you have to buy a different fan shroud? The attached picture is of the kluge I made to get the shroud to work.

Mine fit really well. What about a BB shroud?

The aftermarket rubber pads are too thick. I have told the shop local to me and there is nothing being done about it. You will need to find some originals or grind yours down shorter. I had the same problem.

You can see in the picture how much too thick it is by looking at the little metal spacers I made for the shroud. The pads must be 1/4 inch too thick.
