Want to see some pics of 69-72 blazers with big blocks!!
I just wanted to see some pics of the engine compartment with the big block in and what mods where made with the fire wall!!!

Here's a link to info on my swap in my K20, won't be any different than a K5. I had major issues, should have moved it all forward like 6772king.

this is the big block iam putting in i have all the mounts for it and they are the tall valve covers but i can change them out to the smaller ones are plasma cut the fire wall to make it fit and redo some of the sheet metal on the fire wall but if i can avoid messing with the fire wall i will try not to mess with it..

If use the Big Block motor mounts you will have alot less hassle . You can use tall valve covers also. I put a 396 1n a 72 2wd blazer. I used shorty hedman chevelle headers .it worked out well.

as well the motor thats in it now is a 327 and even with that motor the valve cover clear not by much but they are the tall valve covers for a small block..

Here's a pic of my 496 sitting in the engine bay . I've got it in the stock location and am running tall valve covers. I ran into MAJOR clearance issues with the firewall on both sides of the block...no mere dimples would have cured my problems. I cut out the interferance areas, created "pocks out of sheet metal and welded them back in. To give you an idea as to how much of an interferance I had...on the driver's side, I actually had to cut the hole for the clutch rod out. Fortuantely, I had to blow a new hole through the dash for the clutch set-up that I'm running...otherwise I'd really been S.O.L.!

Big Bad 1972 Blazer - sounds like you had to make mods similar to mine.
My drivers side is still tighter than I would have wanted.

I put a 454 in my 72:
This last pic you can see were I had to BAM BAM on the firewall. I also used a 73+ truck SBC crossmember to replace my factory 72 one. The two main reasons for this is, so I can remove the oil pan with out the Xmember being in the way and so I could use aftermarket SBC engine mounts for a more ridged mounting to the frame. You can see the crossmember here: I just got back from a weekend at Pismo Dunes with my K5....WOW I love 454 power. AWSOME!!! This engine ROCKED my K5 and it was so easy to climb the dunes... Burt

I came across a 1972 blazer in Texas that was for sale a little while back, the owner claimed that it was original.....is this correct? This thread makes me wonder....did the blazers ever come with big blocks (396 specifically) as a factory option?

lol, kinda wondered about that.....he was asking for 8 grand for it.....and stated that if it were in original condition it would be worth double that (rust free body, but no top, roll bar, seats, and needed paint and other odds and ends). Thought I had found something rare.....guess the joke was on me.....but I didn't buy so....guess the joke could have been funnier!
