I've been searching for a 4 bbl intake for my 283. I found this one, can anyone confirm this (I'm not 100% sure but I assume it is cause it has 4 small holes on the top) . The number cast into it is 9788244 can anyone tell me what year or what this may have come off of?

sbc 4 bbl square bore mandifold cast iron hot tank it and repainted it should look good

Are you sure that is the # it looks like 3783244=283,327 62-63 car 4BC,IRON,STD. PERF.WCBF OR 4-JET .I have no #in my book that begins with 9 so just my observasion.

Allso the cast date is located by the bolt hole that holds the coil on .

Kaycee you are correct on the number I just looked at it again...thanks for that info.

Can anyone suggest a good carb to run on this? "WCBF OR 4-JET" or is that the type of carb to use?? Do I need an older style carb to run on this manifold (I have noticed later model intakes have 2 large holes and 2 small holes on top) does that require a different carb etc etc?? Sorry for these silly q's I'm still learning.

You can run a small Holley on it. Not sure of what else. The intakes with the large secondary holes work with Quadra jets and Spread bores. Sorry, I only know old junk, donâ€™t know what a wcfb isâ€¦

Hmm..AFB sounds familiar, wasnâ€™t that they used on Mopars?

AFB is just alluminum four bbl, however, the name was given to the webber, then carter, and now edelbrock carbs, which are all the exact same model...with minor updates through the years.
Chysler did use them stock, as did GM. I don't recall Ford ever using them though.

The earliest model Rochester, 4-jet, (like kaycee said) had a square bore. I have an early 327 with that carb and a manifold with casting number 3866922.

To my knowledge... There were 2 different square bore sizes available in the mid 60's. one uses a 4GC carb (bore's measure 1.50 inches) and then the larger hi-perf size approx. 1.70 (just shy of 1-3/4") the 4GC or smaller manifolds are rather easy to find but you have to use and adapter to run a Holley or Carter, etc.. type carb on it. The Hi-perf ones are perfect for using on the street. Same flow as the after market performer type manifolds. just a bit heavier.
Here's some help. Fel-pro number 9474 carb gasket fits the 4GC carb model. used from 1956 to 1966. Fel pro number# 1901 perfectly fits the Hi-perf (better) manifold...
Your appears to be the 4GC (using part# 9474) manifold.. Works OK. If you have a rebuildable Rochester 4GC manifold. And, Aren't looking for alot of performance. You can use a adapter to get to the better carb's but are pretty resticted with flow...
