i guess my cluch linkage is wore out ,the pedal doesn't come all the way up and if you you press it down too far it gets stuck on the floor. it also squeaks pretty bad. i have all my springs hooked up as far as i know and i was just wondering what it takes to get this problem fixed. i'm thinking someone here must have had this problem before because i've seen a couple of pickups with this same problem. oh yeah and the pickup is a 79 gmc 4x4 half ton with the stock 4 speed.

We used to have a bunch of Chevy Duallies with 4 speeds, and I remember that was a common problem. I think most of the time all we had to do was change the bolt and the bushings at the top of the pedal, and that usually fixed them. Seems the hardest part was removing and re-hooking the spring up under the dash. Hope that helps.

By the way, also make sure the clutch cross bar between the engine and frame is well greased.

i do grease the cross bar every time i service the pickup. do you have to stand on your head to change those bushings? it is hard to see up there.

Wouldn't hurt to give the cross bar a shot or two of grease each time you grease the rest of the truck. And yes, it's pretty hard to get those bushings. It's been about twenty years since I changed any, but as I recall it wasn't real easy to get in there. I think you can remove the instrument panel and the gauge cluster to get more access, maybe someone whose done it latley can tell you for sure.
