El Camino Rear Ends Fit in Our Trucks?
I was just told that any rear end from a 69 thru 71 El Camino will fit in our trucks. Can anyone verify that? I thought they would be narrower or at least have smaller brake assemblies, so I've assumed they wouldn't work. Am I wrong?

Keep in mind that the El Camino is basically a station wagon with a bed...
Do you want a car axle in your truck???

I don`t know that they have the same mounting dimensions as trucks(trailing arms/shocks).I also don`t know what the benefit would be.Probably narrower, too. And,yes, smaller brakes. Are you thinking of your C/20?I`m planning on installing a Dana60 from a C/20 in place of the 12-bolt in my short bed. There are parts available to use 5-lug axles/brakes.Not narrowing/tubbing,just want a beefy third member to handle big hp.

I'm switching from 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton. I need a 12 bolt with coil spring perches.
And I have a long bed, so I won't need to open the tailgate.

The brackets that are welded to the rear end are completely different and the brakes are different. There may be a way to adapt it but you are better off finding a truck rear end. The wheel bolt circle is 5 on 4 3/4".
The El Camino rear ends are like the Chevelle rear ends. Jim |

Andrew,
I wish you lived in PA instead of CA, I would gladly trade you the correct rear-end for an A-body rear-end. Chevelle, El Camino, Cutlass, Skylark and Le Mans are all A-body cars and they are DEFINITELY different from our trucks in nearly every way. The brake shoe retainer springs might be the same, that's about it. You have to admit the tailgate thing was pretty funny. Take care, Hot Rod
