stepside tail lamps
I am thinking about the rear of my 69 stepside. I plan to use the stock chrome bumper. I want to see what others have used for alternate tail lamps. I am not fond of the stockers and would like something a bit different. I have seen the Vega type in the stepside fenders and some round industrial type set in the stepside fenders. Hell I've even seen Mustang lights in the stepside fenders. That's all I'll say about that one!
I see most of you use the stock ones but I know some of you have something different. Let's have a look.

I recently made these "bowtie" shaped lights for mine. They get alot of attention too! They sit in 1" from the surface and have 2 bulbs each. I had toyed with the idea of making them LED's but haven't yet. BTW, I too have the chrome rear bumper (not shown in pic)
This truck had 1965 Impala lights on when I bought it, 2 on each side, one on top of the other. They looked good and got much attention too but they rotted away from years of tire spray. If you do something built into the fender like these, be sure to protect the backside. I made some splash shields for my new lights.

I've always wondered if the rear bumper from an 80s El Camino would look any good on a stepside bed. The lights are built into the bumper.

Seems like it would be a bummer not to have back up lights. I will admit it looks a lot nicer without them though. I wonder if there would be a way to use the lenses from an older Corvette that has the back up light in the center of the brake light.

Don`t cut the fenders!!!If you want to french or use custom lights,do a roll pan.I like the vintage GM lights up to these originals.

If you have a lot of spare time and like bending sheetmetal around trailer LED lights, here's my $0.02 (and I didn't touch the fenders!!):

Yeah now I have been looking at those corner boxes wondering what kind of lights I could get in there and even maybe widening the box to accomodate some type of light. I am not beyond installing lights in the back of the fenders but would rather have the lights closer to the rear of the bed near the stock location. I just want a different shape or style light. My choice would be simple if I were using the rolled pan but I am not.

It really depends on what year of elky bumper you use. For example, I personally don't think this one looks as good because of the bolts all over the place and how square it looks:
