Can a stock 6 cyl 4 speed trans be used w/BBC?

Looking at buying a 68 k10 with original 6 cyl and 4 speed trans.
If I get it I would like to swap in a 396. My question is can I use the original 4 speed and transfer case with the BBC? I'd like to keep it as stock as possible but want the big block for towing.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

6 cly is a 10 inch clutch and i think bbc used a 11 inch and the spline might be different as well as the bellhousing

I'll stick my neck out and disagree with above. My 70 6cyl truck had the 11 inch clutch. I know that the cast bellousing was the same as small block, and in general, small block and big block and 6 cyl for that matter bellhousings interchange. The 4 spd is a real tough tranny, you'll break something else before that breaks if you're worried about that. Spline count should be the same as tranny is the same, even if it were different, you just get clutch disk to match. You may need BBC frame mounts, and have some minor clearance issues at the firewall with the BBC and 4x4 setup as most use the rearward egine mounting position. Make sure you have good cab mounts, as that my raise cab a little for better clearance.

My 72 C-30 (250/4 speed) has an 11" clutch, I know I ordered it and replaced it myself.

I don't know what size the clutch was, but when i swapped my 6cyl to a 396 I used the same flywhel, clutch and bell. My only prob was breaking pivot balls.

292s use an 11" clutch, smaller L6s use the 10".
The SM 465 should handle any GM engine.
