Side moulding modifications ?

Has anyone tried using the narrow upper body trim in place of the wider lower body trim on a 69 thru 72 ? Or would that look stupid ? I know some cutting and trimming would be required. I want to protect the paint from those inconsiderate aholes and door dings, but thought something a little thinner would look better. Any thoughts ?

You would have to figure out how to roll the edges where you cut them. That would be pretty hard. The leading edge of the door trim would have to be flattened to allow room for the door to hinge.

It would look nice. But,the A-holes would still be dinging the trim.I hate dented trim!I either park farther away and walk or,preferably, park at the end or against an island.Giving the A-holes the room they need.

Park sideways in 2 spots, you'll never get a ding again!

I've usually try to park farther away, but my truck must be be a loser magnet, as they home in on the best looking truck on the lot, open the doors on their 2 door junker into my truck, haul their fat asses out, and go buy stuff with their welfare checks that I helped pay for. I guess I prefer to have dented trim as I can replace that cheaper than paint. If park sideways in 2 spots then I am the A-hole and am likely to get keyed I think. Anyway, any thoughts about different side mouldings for these trucks? Maybe something off of a newer truck might fit with less trimming ??

You could try the molding that came on the 80's model trucks. It is a stick on molding you buy it in a roll and cut to fit.

GM,

The guy I bought my suburban from used the trim off a 88-9? truck. I belive it comes with self adhesive.

I just bought a similar molding as Hart Rob's from JC Whitney for my 71 and it turned out nice!. I left the factory holes underneath in case anyone wants to put the factory molding back on down the road.

My burb also has the newer stick on molding. Seems to look and function just fine.

On a side note, I would never take up two parking space. You are just asking for trouble. I know two of my friends that had there paint ruined because some pissed person keyed there ride. Just park in the most remote section of the lot. I like to park next to islands and hug the curb. This way if some jurk must park next to me at least they have room.

Junkyardjohn - I just calls 'em as I see 'em !!! Actually, not all dents are caused that way, I was sitting in my truck several years ago when an elderly man got out of his car and slipped on the ice, (I should have parked at the far side) he hung onto his door an whammed it into mine. I know that put a dent in my trim, but aleast he didn't break a hip. I gave him a dirty look, and said something about being more careful, but I didn't have the heart to really rip his ass. Sometime I CAN keep my mouth mostly shut. Anyway thanks for the trim ideas guys, keep 'em coming if ya have more.
